Outdoor Living, All Year Round
We all love the Aussie outdoors. But the weather does not always play along. Summer heat, winter wind, sudden rain. Most outdoor areas sit empty half the year because of it.
Outdoor blinds fix that. They turn an exposed patio or deck into a room you can use in any season. Block the wind. Keep out the rain. Cut the glare and heat while still letting the breeze through.
At Watson, we make our outdoor blinds locally, custom fitted to your exact opening, with spans up to 7 metres wide and drops up to 4 metres. No off-the-shelf gaps, no imported guesswork. Every blind is built to handle Australian conditions and backed by a lifetime product warranty.
Choose Your System
BEST FOR VIEWS
Clear PVC outdoor blinds give you full weather protection without blocking the view. You stay shielded from wind and rain while still seeing straight through to the outside.
It’s a smart choice for patios and balconies where you want to keep the space usable year round without feeling closed in.
BEST FOR BUDGET
With a guide-free design, this option suits areas where side channels aren’t practical, offering simple sun protection while still allowing airflow.
It helps cut glare and limit direct sun, making outdoor spaces more comfortable to use in warmer weather.
BEST FOR AIRFLOW
A stylish straight drop option for sun and UV protection, enhanced airflow, and areas where channels aren’t suitable.
Featuring high-tensile 2.5mm 316-grade marine stainless steel cables, it’s built for durability, perfect for coastal conditions.
BEST FOR WIND
A straight drop solution for sun/UV protection, insect resistance, wind, privacy, and balcony enclosures.
A floating channel keeps fabric taut, preventing blowouts and light gaps.
| Type | Best suited for | Wind | Visibility | Rain | Common locations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight Drop | Sheltered patios, pergolas | Low to moderate | High | Light rain | Pergolas, eaves |
| Cable Guide | Semi-exposed areas | Moderate | High | Moderate | Balconies, patios |

| Clear PVC | Year-round enclosure | High | Very high | High | Patios, verandahs |
| Mesh / Screen | Shade and airflow | Moderate | Medium | Low | Pergolas, outdoor rooms |
CHOOSE YOUR FABRIC
Airflow. If you’re enclosing a verandah or patio, think about whether you’d still like a cool breeze to flow through. Open weave sunscreens are the best option for maintaining airflow.
Privacy & View Through. Consider whether you need daytime or nighttime privacy. Dark open-weave fabrics provide great daytime views, but they also allow visibility inside at night.
Colour Fastness. Choose a fabric with strong fade resistance to ensure long-term colour retention. Fabrics with a fade resistance rating of 6 or above will maintain their original shade for years.
TOTAL DARKNESS
Blocks light and views completely. Best when privacy and shade matter more than seeing outside.
HIGH PRIVACY
Dark Open Weave. Clear daytime views with strong privacy. At night, interior lights can be seen from outside.
LIGHT FILTERING
Open Weave. Filters light while letting air flow through. Ideal when you want shade and a breeze without closing the space off.
CLEAR VIEWS
Full visibility with protection from wind and rain. Great for keeping outdoor areas usable without losing the view.

Built To Take A Beating
Some outdoor blinds flap, rattle and gap the moment the wind picks up. That means repeat call-outs and service fees. Ours do not.
Our side retention system uses a floating channel that keeps the fabric taut while letting it flex inside the frame. So even when the wind hammers your patio, the blind stays put and stays quiet. You get privacy and lasting weather protection at once, with no nail-biting when a storm rolls in.
SMART HOME READY
Raise and lower your blinds with a remote, your phone, or your voice. Set schedules so they close automatically when the afternoon sun hits. Control them whether you are home or away.
Prefer hands-on? Manual options include an internal cord winch, a geared crank, or the Alpha Light Lift, where you simply move the bottom rail. Whatever suits how you live.
Patios take sun, wind and the odd downpour. The right blind lets you use the space in any weather while keeping the view when you want it.
Our Recommendation
Side Retention or Clear PVC.
Alfresco areas take the full force of the weather, so stability matters most. Side retention blinds hold firm in wind and seal the space so you can use it in any season.
Our Recommendation
Side Retention, with mesh or blockout fabric.
Balconies are often exposed and need wind protection without blocking the outlook. Side retention blinds add shelter and privacy while keeping the view.
Our Recommendation
Side Retention with a view-through mesh.
Decks are all about outdoor living. Side retention blinds turn the deck into a sheltered room, blocking wind and rain so you can use it well past summer.
Our Recommendation
Side Retention, motorised for easy everyday use.
WHAT IT COSTS
Outdoor blind pricing varies depending on the system you choose, the size of the opening, and how the blinds are operated. Because outdoor blinds are made to measure, each installation is priced to suit the space and conditions.
The main factors that affect outdoor blind pricing include:
Side retention outdoor blinds and motorised systems generally sit at a higher price point, as they are designed for larger openings and more exposed areas. Straight drop and cable guide blinds are often a more cost-effective option, and pricing starts from $1,500 for the smallest sizes.
The best way to get accurate pricing is through an on-site measure, where the space, exposure and installation requirements can be assessed properly. Book a free measure and quote to receive tailored pricing for your outdoor blinds.
Photos can only tell you so much. Book a free in-home consultation and we will bring the fabric and mesh samples to your patio, so you can see exactly how they look in your light and your space. We measure everything and recommend the right system for your conditions.

Outdoor blinds are made to measure, so the price depends on the system, the size of the opening and how they are operated. Straight drop and cable guide blinds are the most budget-friendly, with pricing from $1,500 for smaller sizes. Side retention and motorised systems sit higher because they are built for larger, more exposed openings. The best way to get an accurate price is a free on-site measure and quote.
Side retention (zip) outdoor blinds are the best choice for windy areas. The fabric is held in place along both sides, which stops movement and blow-outs and gives better coverage on larger openings.
Yes. With the right system and fabric for your space, outdoor blinds can be used all year round. They work especially well combined with a pergola, louvre roof or awning.
Straight drop blinds suit sheltered spots and give simple shade and privacy. Side retention (zip) blinds run in side channels, so they handle wind far better and suit larger or more exposed openings.
Both. Outdoor blinds can be operated by a manual crank, cord winch or light-lift bottom rail, or motorised for effortless control by remote, app or voice. Motorised suits larger areas and everyday use.
It depends on the fabric. Clear PVC keeps full visibility, open-weave mesh balances shade and outlook, and blockout fabric gives total privacy and shade. We help you match the fabric to how you use the space.
Very little upkeep. Wipe the fabric with a soft, damp cloth and mild soapy water, then let it air dry before rolling up. Clear PVC can be cleaned with a PVC-safe cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals and pressure washers.
