Precise Light Control In Every Room
Venetian blinds are window coverings made from horizontal slats that tilt open and closed, giving you precise control over how much light enters the room and from which angle. Tilt them open for full light and view. Close them for complete privacy. Angle them to redirect sunlight upward or downward. No other blind type gives you this level of light direction control.
They come in three main materials: real timber for a warm, natural look; premium PVC that looks like painted timber at a lower cost; and slimline aluminium for a sleek contemporary finish. At Watson, every venetian blind is custom made to fit your exact window measurements.
Choose Your Material
We offer venetian blinds in three materials: real timber, premium PVC, and slimline aluminium. Book a free consultation to see samples in your home.
Modern Look
Venetian blinds have evolved well beyond the cheap aluminium slats you might remember from the 90s. Today’s venetian blinds come in wider blade sizes (63mm and 84mm) that look closer to plantation shutters. Premium timber finishes, painted wood-look PVC, and metallic aluminium options suit everything from coastal homes to inner-city apartments.
Modern venetian blinds can also be motorised for remote, app, or voice control. Tilt the slats from your phone without getting up. Set them to adjust automatically based on the time of day or sunlight intensity.
vs Plantation Shutters
Appearance: Plantation shutters have a permanent, built-in architectural look. Venetian blinds hang from a headrail and can be fully raised. Shutters look more built-in. Venetians are more flexible.
Light control: Both offer excellent light control through tilting slats. Venetian blinds can be fully raised to clear the window. Plantation shutters fold to the side but don’t fully disappear.
Price: Venetian blinds are significantly more affordable than plantation shutters. If you love the slat look but have a tighter budget, venetians give you a similar aesthetic at a lower price point.
Durability: Plantation shutters generally last longer and are more robust. PVC and aluminium venetians handle moisture well.

Smart Control
Add motorisation to your venetian blinds for remote, smartphone, or voice-controlled slat tilting. Adjust the angle of your slats from your phone without getting up. Set schedules so they tilt open in the morning and close at night.
Motorised venetians are especially popular for hard-to-reach windows and for homeowners who want to integrate their blinds into a smart home system. Works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Available for timber, PVC, and aluminium venetian blinds.
Maintenance Guide
Timber venetian blinds: Dust each slat with a soft feather duster or microfibre cloth. For marks or stains, wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth. Always dry timber slats immediately after wiping to prevent water damage. Never submerge timber blinds in water.
PVC venetian blinds: Wipe slats with a damp cloth and mild detergent. PVC handles moisture well. Rinse with a clean damp cloth and allow to air dry.
Aluminium venetian blinds: Wipe slats with a damp cloth. For built-up dust, close the slats fully and wipe in one direction. Flip the slats and repeat on the other side. The easiest venetian material to clean.
For all types, regular light dusting every 1 to 2 weeks prevents dust from building up and keeps your blinds looking fresh with minimal effort.
SMART HOME READY
Add motorisation to your venetian blinds for remote, smartphone, or voice-controlled slat tilting. Adjust the angle of your slats from your phone without getting up. Set schedules so they tilt open in the morning and close at night. Works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Available for timber, PVC, and aluminium venetian blinds.
Blade Sizes
The slimmest aluminium blade. Lightweight and compact. Best for smaller windows in offices and bathrooms.
Our standard aluminium blade size. A good balance of light control and clean aesthetics for most window sizes.
A modern, wider blade that gives a bolder look. Closer to plantation shutter aesthetics. Available in timber and aluminium.
A popular mid-size that bridges the gap between venetian and plantation shutter looks. Available in timber and PVC.
Our widest blade. Timber only. Creates a premium look closest to plantation shutters at venetian blind pricing.
Smart Control
A compact handheld remote tilts your slats to any angle with a single press. One remote can control all your blinds.
Control tilt angle from anywhere on your phone. Set schedules so slats adjust automatically throughout the day.
Works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Say 'tilt my blinds' and they respond instantly.
PVC or aluminium venetian blinds are the best choice for kitchens. Both handle moisture, grease, and steam without warping. Easy to wipe clean. Avoid real timber in kitchens due to humidity.
Our Recommendation
PVC or Aluminium Venetian Blinds.
PVC venetian blinds are ideal for bathrooms. Fully water-resistant, warp-proof, and available in timber-look finishes. Never use real timber in a bathroom.
Our Recommendation
Premium PVC Venetian Blinds.
Timber venetian blinds add warmth and natural texture to bedrooms. Wider blade sizes (63mm, 84mm) create a premium look similar to plantation shutters. Tilt the slats closed for full privacy at night.
Our Recommendation
Timber Venetian Blinds, 63mm or 84mm blade.

PVC and aluminium venetian blinds are excellent for kitchens and bathrooms because they’re water-resistant and warp-proof. Avoid real timber in high-humidity areas as it can warp over time. PVC venetians look like painted timber but handle moisture without problems.
Both use horizontal slats for light control, but venetian blinds hang from a headrail and can be fully raised, while plantation shutters are fixed to the window frame and fold open. Venetian blinds are more affordable and flexible. Plantation shutters are more permanent and architectural.
Yes. Our venetian blinds are available with motorised slat tilting. Control the angle of your slats with a remote, smartphone app, or voice assistant. Available for timber, PVC, and aluminium venetians.
Regular dusting with a soft cloth or feather duster keeps venetian blinds clean. For timber, wipe with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. For PVC and aluminium, wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Dusting every 1-2 weeks prevents buildup.
Timber venetians come in 46mm, 50mm, 60mm, 65mm, and 84mm blade sizes. PVC comes in 50mm and 63mm. Aluminium in 25mm, 35mm, and 50mm. The wider blade sizes (63mm, 84mm) give a more modern look similar to plantation shutters.
No. Modern venetian blinds have evolved significantly. Today’s options include wide-blade timber in contemporary finishes, slimline aluminium in metallic colours, and PVC in realistic wood-look finishes. With motorised operation and smart home integration, venetian blinds are as relevant as ever.
